New in version 2.0 is support for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. If you have already upgraded to the full version of Xploding Boxes on your phone, you can gain access on the PlayBook as well without having to pay a second time. Instead you can just select “Upgrade” from the swipe down menu, and log in with your BlackBerryID. Unfortunately there is no way to sync your level progress on the phone version of the game, with the tablet version of the game so you will have to replay the levels from the beginning.
This new version also adds levels 201-215 to the game, as well as adding support for Spanish. The language can be changed from the option page, and will require the app to be restarted in order to take effect in some places. These additional levels and languages are available on both the phone and tablet versions of the game.
The above chart shows the language being used by users who have downloaded Xploding Boxes since the release of version 1.6 of the game. Currently the game is only available in English, which presumably has some effect on the chart.

Version 1.6 brings the total number of levels in Xploding Boxes up to 200, which is twice as many as the original version 1.0 of the application had. This update also allows the game to support all of the new BlackBerry 7 devices that will be released over the next few months including the 9900, 9930, 9810, 9850, 9860, 9350, and 9360.

Introduced in the new levels with this update are xploding triangles that only release a single bullet after they blow up. Like the black boxes introduced earlier this allows for more variety and complexity in the design of the levels.
In previous versions some users encountered a 30222 error, after trying to upgrade the app after deleting the and reinstalling it. This problem has been addressed in version 1.3 of Xploding Boxes, but a few users may additionally need to archive the application, and then restore from there in order to be able to access the full version.

The Xploding Boxes starts with five levels unlocked, and every time you beat a level, an additional level is unlocked. The end result of this is that if you ever get stuck, you can usually just skip ahead to the next level, because there are always a few that are unlocked.
The game can be download for free with the first 25 levels available at no cost at all. Access to the remaining levels can then be gained by making a one time in-application purchase. This is done using the brand new In-Application payment API that was recently added. By using this when you upgrade to the full game, you do not lose any of the progress that you had already gained up to that point. This also requires that you have version 2.1 or higher of BlackBerry AppWorld installed.
The plan is to continue to release additional content and levels for this game. Version 1.1 of Xploding Boxes will add levels 101-120 and will be released by the end of February.
Xploding Boxes requires a minimum OS of 5.0 and supports the 8520, 8530, 8900, 9300, 9330, 9500, 9520, 9530, 9550, 9630, 9650, 9700, 9780, and 9800. Gaining access to all levels requires that you have version 2.1 or higher of BlackBerry AppWorld installed in order to make use of the in-application payment API.
